SamenvattingThe author examines the US occupation of Japan (1945-1952) as a raced, gendered and classed endeavor in the larger context of the Cold War. She argues that gender reform in occupied Japan was intimately connected on the one hand to prewar nationalist and imperialist politics and on the other to emerging Cold War cultural dynamics.
