Sexualizing the social

Situating the feminist gaze and spectatorship in postwar cinema
This collection explores methodological and theoretical questions about feminist film theory, as well offers close analyses of films from a range of countries, genres, and historical moments. This volume treats a range of film texts, from Marguerite Duras to 21st century horror films, from Agnes Varda's installation at the Pantheon to contemporary Russian film, from Tarantino's latest work to Sofia Coppola’s trilogy, from the Western to Steven Spielberg, from Hitchcock, Fellini, and Fassbinder to the subgenre of the career-woman-in-peril thriller. This anthology investigates new areas of research for critical inquiry into film and gender studies as well as feminist, queer, postfeminist and masculinity theories. In conversation with a variety of theorists and filmmakers, these essays consider how to productively explore the intersections of film theory, feminist theory, psychoanalysis, and cultural studies.- Creator

Perspectives féministes en sciences économiques
In this special about feminist economics Sylvie Morell argues for a better mastery by feminist economists of a specific school of thought in economics. Cristina Carrasco's focus of her paper is on the issue of unpaid care as a social problem, as opposed to a private matter concerning only women, and thereby to promote an open public debate about the utility and equity of this arrangement. Ingrid Robeyns examines how useful Amartya Sen's capability approach for feminist economics is. Céline Schnegg discusses the experience of abortion through medication. Christine Pirinoli sheds light through a historical analysis of Palestinian women's activism on the mechanisms and logics of nationalist discourses that aim to maintain a patriarchal system presented as authentically Palestinian. Patricia Roux, Lavina Gianettoni and Céline Perrin analyze interrelationships between different forms of domination, and more specifically the ways in which relations of domination constructed around the categories of sex and race feed into and mutually reinforce each other.- Creator

Spiderwoman theatre

The gender of globalization
The authors in this volume employ feminist, ethnographic methods to examine what free trade and export processing zones, economic liberalization, and currency reform mean to women in Argentina, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Ghana, The United States, Jamaica, and many other places. The perspective ranges from the macroeconomic to the cases of local traders or textile workers. Discourses and stereotypes are not the same in different regions or parts of the world They can clarify the position of women, but they can also veil their marginalization. .- Creator

Special issue: feminist legal theory
The feminist legal theorists in this volume examine the relationship between gender, equality, and power across an array of realms: sex, reproduction, pleasure, work, money. In doing so they identify social, political, economic, developmental, and psychological and somatic forces, operating both internally and externally, that complicate the expression and constraint of power. Finally, they give thought to the possibilities for legal interventions in light of these more complex notions of power.- Creator
