- Bachelorscriptie met onderzoek naar de oorzaken van de noodzaak voor nieuwe wetgeving om gemengde huwelijken juridisch beter te regelen in Nederlands-Indië en naar wat de gevolgen van deze wetgeving waren voor de betrokken echtparen aan het eind van de negentiende eeuw. Historische bronnen zijn de verslagen van de juristenvergadering in 1887 en de correspondentie, vergezeld van commentaren, over het juridische steekspel rond het wetsontwerp voor de Gemengde Huwelijken Regeling, die in 1898 in werking trad. Daarnaast wordt er gebruik gemaakt van contemporaine en secundaire literatuur. Bevat een algemene historische schets over de wetgeving wat betreft gemengde huwelijken in het Nederlands-Indië van voor 1898, en vertelt over de mogelijkheden voor 'inlanders' tot het krijgen van gelijkstelling met Europeanen. Tevens wordt het verhaal verteld van twee gemengde huwelijken van nationalistische Indonesiërs met Nederlandse vrouwen: Dr. Soetomo (1888-1938) en Everdina Johanna de Graaff-Brüring (1879-1934), en Soetan Sjahrir (1909-1966) - later minister-president van Indonesië - en Maria Duchâteau (.
