In this collection of essays different perspectives are presented on the growing significance of fundamentalist religions and movements in the world. The relations between gender, religion and politics are studied in different cultural contexts. The religions and movements also have some aspects in common, like reinstatement of traditional gender roles and sexual ethics. Women are confirmed in the roles of wife and mother, and at the same time they take on an active role in the fundamentalist movements.
