- Description
- Domestic and caregiving work has been at the core of human existence throughout history. Poorly paid or even unpaid, this work has been assigned to women in most societes and occasionally to men often as enslaved, indentures, 'adopted' workers. While some use domestic service as training for their own future independent households, others are confined to it for life and try to avoid damage to their identities (Part One). Employment conditions are even worse in colonizer-colonized dichotomies, in which the subalternized have to run the households of administrators who believe they are running an empire (Part Two). Societies and states set the discriminatory rules, those employed develop strategies of resistance or self-protection (Part Three).

- Description
- This book contests the idea that Europe developed within clear-cut geographical boundaries. It examines how experiences of colonialism and imperialism continue to be constitutive of the European space and of the very idea of Europe. By approaching Europe as a complex political space, the chapters investigate topical concerns around its politics of inclusion and exclusion towards migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, as well as its take on internal conflicts, transitions and cosmopolitan imaginaries.

- Description
- This collection of essays focuses on scholars and activists' efforts to decolonize Dutch history and memory. The contributions by among others Gloria Wekker, Halleh Ghorashi, Mitchell Esajas, Quincy Gario and Lianne Leonora, provides a glimpse into decolonial activism in the Dutch kingdom. The central statement of this book is that the kingdom's current social organization, which relies on separate pillars for each religious or racial group, must be dismantled in order to be fully decolonized. The volume includes topics such as black resistance, black heritage tours, anti-black Pete movement and white innocence in the Netherlands.
