- Women's Worlds 2005: 9th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women (WW05) was held at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea on June 19-24, 2005. It was co-hosted by the Korean Association of Women's Studies (KAWS) and Ewha Womans University by setting up the Organizing Committee and secretariat at the Asian Center for Women's Studies. WW05 was the first held in Asia and one of the largest congress ever gathering 3,000 participants, feminist scholars, activists and policy makers from all over the world.

This theme provides an excellent venue for reflecting broad range of modern and post-modern orders and global issues.

- Aankondiging van een studiedag georganiseerd door de Commissie Vrouwenstudies van de Faculteit der Godgeleerdheid en Godsdienstwetenschap te Groningen. Sinds het jaar 2000 is de Nederlandse samenleving in toenemende mate in de greep geraakt van het zogenoemde multiculturele debat. Het gaat hier in het bijzonder om de tegenstelling tussen de als open, humanistisch en tolerant gekenschetste Nederlandse cultuur en die van immigranten met een moslim-achtergrond. De eis tot integratie in de Nederlandse samenleving en die van respect voor de eigenheid van verschillende bevolkingsgroepen staan tegenover elkaar. De doelstelling van de studiedag is te onderzoeken of het mogelijk is uit de cultuur van sweeping statements te komen. Hulpmiddel hierbij zijn feministische theorieën over omgaan met verschillen, zoals die onder meer door de Franse filosofe Simone de Beauvoir ontwikkeld zijn. De Beauvoir en andere filosofes stelden dat het Westers denken gedomineerd wordt door hiërarchische dichotomieën: tussen cultuur en natuur, tussen blank en zwart, hetero en homo, man en vrouw. in dit denken was de vrouw de Ander, degene die afweek van de norm, die alleen daardoor altijd de mindere was. Wordt ook het multiculturele debat door het dichotomie-denken gedomineerd? Zijn ook moslims automatisch in de positie van de Ander beland? En hoe werkt dat dan voor moslima's? Zijn zij in dubbel opzicht tot Ander gebombardeerd: als moslim en als vrouw? Hoe is uit dit dichotomie-denken te komen? Spreeksters: Baukje Prins, Naima Azough, Nahed Selim.
