- Description
- The increase in labor-market participation of women has caused an increasing interest in how household life is organized. Outsourcing of household tasks forms a possible solution. Many timesaving goods and services can be purchased on the market. For example, children can be brought to day care centers, a domestic help can be used, or ready-made meals can be bought. Households differ, however, in the extent to which they outsource tasks and even within households there are differences: some tasks are outsourced while others are still fulfilled by the household itself. The research questions of this study are: 1) To what extent do households outsource their household- and caring tasks? 2) To what extent have there been changes in outsourcing of household- and caring tasks over the last few decades? 3) How can the outsourcing behavior of households be explained, taking into account the characteristics of the household situation, the work situation, the task and the supply?
