- Description
- This bok reveals how the battle between feminists and their conservative challengers divided the nation as Democrats continued to support women’s rights and Republicans cast themselves as the party of family values. Gloria Steinem was quoted in 2015 as saying the National Women’s Conference in 1977 'may take the prize as the most important event nobody knows about.' After the United Nations established International Women’s Year in 1975, Congress mandated and funded state conferences to elect delegates to attend the National Women’s Conference in Houston in 1977. At that conference, Bella Abzug, Steinem, and other feminists adopted a National Plan of Action, endorsing the issues of abortion rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and gay rights. Phyllis Schlafly, Lottie Beth Hobbs, and the conservative women’s movement held a massive rally to protest federally funded feminism and launch a Pro-Family movement.

- Description
- This book charts the history of the women's liberation movement in Scotland in the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. Based on documentary evidence and oral testimony from feminist activists, this book argues for the importance of looking at the movement from the grassroot perspective, as well as locating the struggle for women's liberation in the local context, shifting emphasis away from large cities like London. The book uncovers the reach of the movement and considers what case studies of women's liberation e.g. on abortion and violence against women can tell us about the ways in which the development of the movement has been portrayed. In the appendices: short biographies of oral history interviewees and the seven demands of the women's libration movement in Britain. Paperback. First published in hardback 2014.

- Description
- This book gives an account of how feminist ideas were enacted by West German leftist organizations from the Red Army Faction to less well-known groups such as the Red Zora. It analyzes their confrontational and violent tactics in challenging the abortion ban, opposing violence against women and campaigning for solidarity with Third World women. Though these groups often diverged ideologically and tactically, they all demonstrated the potency of militant feminism within postwar protest movements.
