- Description
- 'This research note explores the potential for upscaling skills among women and men in the EU labour market. A gender perspective highlights important differences between women and men with low levels of qualifications in .their employability, their situation in the labour market and their access to job-related training. An intersectional perspective reveals the numerous experiences of low-qualified people in precarious employment and the factors that exacerbate vulnerabilities of certain groups of people in accessing quality employment and upscaling skills.'

- Description
- 'In all countries of the world, especially in high-income countries, women declare a higher level of life satisfaction than men when they experience similar conditions (for example, pay and working conditions), but score lower on measures that capture short-term positive and negative emotions, and suffer from higher levels of depression. It is true that the advantage of women in terms of happiness and life satisfaction is not uniform along the life cycle: women are less happy than men the age of 18, happier than men afterwards and until their fifties, and less again thereafter. .The positive gap in life satisfaction is not explained by women’s situation on the labour market, their income, education, personality traits or other personal features or living conditions. On the contrary, women would have obvious reasons to be less satisfied with their life and their professional situation than men: they perform longer hours of unpaid work, receive lower wages and are still predominantly clustered into less prestigious occupations. Authors propose two main explanations for this contrasted picture. The first one is that men and women make different use of their time, especially when they live together. The second one is that they have different expectations.'

- 'She Figures 2015 investigates the level of progress made towards gender equality in research & innovation (R&I) in Europe. It is the main source of pan-European, comparable statistics on the representation of women and men amongst PhD graduates, researchers and academic decision-makers. The data also sheds light on differences in the experiences of women and men working in research – such as relative pay, working conditions and success in obtaining research funds. It also presents for the first time the situation of women and men in scientific publication and inventorships, as well as the inclusion of the gender dimension in scientific articles.'

- Description
- 'This report made an assessment of the status of gender equality in the European Union possible and showed that the EU overall was only half way towards equality, emphasising the need for increased and more effective policy measures and enables a comparison not only across Member States, but also over time by providing scores for 2005, 2010 and 2012. .Furthermore, the report takes an important step in measuring violence against women. By drawing on data collected by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) it explores the possibilities for computing a measure for violence against women.'

- Description
- 'The Gender Equality Index provides a comprehensive measure of gender equality, tailored to fit the EU policy context. Following the importance of cohesion across EU Member States, the Gender Equality Index ensures that higher gender equality scores can only be obtained in societies where there are small gender gaps and high levels of achievement. The present update includes scores for 2005, 2010 and 2012, for the first time allowing for an assessment of the progress made in the pursuit of gender equality in the European Union and individual Member States over time. Moreover, the present update makes a first attempt at populating the satellite domain of violence by providing a composite indicator of direct violence against women, based on the data on violence against women collected by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights through the EU-wide survey on violence against women.'

- Description
- 'This, the sixth annual European Jobs Monitor report, looks in more detail at recent shifts (from the second quarter (Q2) of 2011 to 2016 Q2) in employment at Member State and aggregate EU levels. Part 1 of the report applies a ‘jobs-based approach’ to describe employment shifts quantitatively (how many jobs were created or destroyed and in what sectors) and qualitatively (what kinds of jobs they were, primarily in terms of average hourly pay). Part 2, a more analytical section, discusses the role that occupations play in structuring European wage inequality, and to what extent the observed patterns of job polarisation and upgrading have contributed to wage inequality trends in the last decade.'

- Description
- 'Women’s labour market participation in the European Union has increased over recent decades, passing 70% in 2014. In that year, women comprised almost 46% of the active EU labour market population. Nevertheless, women’s employment and participation rates are still lower than those of men in almost all Member States. Fostering higher participation of women is crucial to meet the Europe 2020 target to achieve an overall employment rate of at least 75% by 2020. This report explores the main characteristics and consequences of gender gaps in labour market participation. It finds that the total cost of a lower female employment rate was €370 billion in 2013, corresponding to 2.8% of EU GDP. The report also examines policies and measures aimed at fostering female labour market participation, which could be central to closing gender gaps.'

- 'This report is meant to provide a better knowledge of the role and positioning of men in gender equality issues. Men’s practices and interests regarding gender equality vary, partly due to differences in provider roles and economic circumstances, but also due to different social, political and cultural patterns. During the last years a special focus on men has emerged at the European level and the amount of research as well as specific strategies have increased. Still, there is little systematised knowledge about men’s practices regarding gender equality in the different European countries.'

- 'In this publication an examination of recent economic developments, policies and prospects in India. Special chapters cover health, female entrepreneurship, the manufacturing sector and economic participation of women. The female economic participation is increasing and more and better employment for women has a high growth potential. Female economic participation is low, reducing growth and living standards. Many women work in marginal jobs and have much lower pay than men. A host of factors constrain women in the labour market, including cultural norms, safety concerns, lack of child care and poor infrastructure. At the same time, high unemployment among educated women, revealed preference for work in surveys, and low net job creation point to demand problems.'
