- Description
- In the early 1970s, a number of West German left-wing activists took up arms, believing that revolution would lead to social change. This publication questions the separation of political violence from feminist politics and offers a new understanding of left-wing female terrorists’ actions as feminist practices that challenged existing gender ideologies. The author draws on archival sources, unpublished letters, and interviews with former activists to paint an interdisciplinary picture of West Germany’s most notorious political group, the Red Army Faction (der Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF)).

This fourth edition contains a new introduction by Moraga, along with a previously unpublished statement by Gloria Anzaldúa. It also includes visual artists whose work was produced during the same period as Bridge, including Betye Saar, Ana Mendieta, and Yolanda López, as well as current contributor biographies.

- Description
- The 1960s and 1970s produced provocative fashion trends that reflected the rising wave of gender politics and the sexual revolution. In an era when gender stereotypes were questioned and dismantled, and when the feminist and gay rights movements were gaining momentum and a voice, the fashion industry responded in kind. Designers from Paris to Hollywood imagined a future of equality and androgyny. The unisex movement affected all ages, with adult fashions trickling down to school-aged children and clothing for infants. Between 1965 and 1975, girls and women began wearing pants to school: boys enjoyed a brief 'peacock revolution', sporting bold colors and patterns: and legal battles were fought over hair style and length.

- Description
- Following the 1971 Bangladesh War, the Bangladesh government publicly designated the thousands of women raped by the Pakistani military and their local collaborators as ‘birangonas’ (brave women). The author demonstrates that while this celebration of ‘birangonas’ as heroes keeps them in the public memory, they exist in the public consciousness as what the author calls a spectral wound. In examining the pervasiveness of the birangona construction, the author opens the possibility for a more politico-economic, ethical, and nuanced inquiry into the sexuality of war.
