- This collection explores the creative, personal and contextual parameters involved in researching sexuality, cutting across disciplinary boundaries and drawing on case studies from a variety of countries and contexts. Its contributors address such key areas as pornography, sex work, intersectionality and LGBT perspectives. The contributors also share their own experiences of researching sexuality within contrasting disciplines, as well as interrogating how the sexual identities of researchers themselves can relate to, and inform, their work.

- The central argument of this book is that, although love is a crucial site of gendered power asymmetries, it is also a vital source of human empowerment that we cannot live without. Instead of emphasizing 'either-or', the book puts the dualities of love center stage. By offering various theoretical perspectives on what makes love such a central value and motivator for people, this title will increase one’s understanding as to why love can keep people in its grip, even when practiced in ways that deplete and oppress. The contributions within the book present new perspectives on the conditions and characteristics of non-oppressive, mutually enhancing ways of loving.

- Risman reveals the strategies youth use to negotiate the gender revolution. Using her theory of gender as a social structure, Risman analyzes life history interviews with Millennials to probe how they understand gender and how they might change it. Some believe that men and women are essentially different and should be so. Others are innovators, defying stereotypes and rejecting sexist ideologies. Perhaps new to this generation are gender rebels who reject sex categories, often refusing to present their bodies within them and sometimes claiming genderqueer identities. And finally, many youths today are simply confused by all the changes around them.

- In recent years, there has been substantial progress on LGBTQ civil rights in the United States. We are now in a time of incredible political uncertainty for queer people. This book provides an introduction to mainstream LGBTQ movements in the US, illustrating the many forms that LGBTQ activism has taken since the mid-twentieth century. The book covers a range of topics, including the Stonewall uprising and gay liberation, AIDS politics, queer activism, marriage equality fights and bisexual and transgender justice. Stulberg explores how marginalized communities have used a wide range of political and cultural tools to create change. The five key themes that guide the book are assimilationism and liberationism as strategies for equality, the possibilities of legal change, the role of art and popular culture in social change, the interconnectedness of social movements and the role of privilege in movement organizing.

- This book explores the history of homophobia in Russia, by examining nine 'case histories' that reveal the origins and development of homophobic attitudes in modern Russia. In the first part it examines some sites of homophobic violence in Russia after 1945. Secondly, it looks at the rise of a visible LGBT scene in late Soviet and later post-communist Russian society. The third part is about writing and remembering Russia's queer past. The author argues that the lack of adequate historical research and memory work will weaken the future of Russia's LGBT citizens.

The book deals with key themes such as intimacy, sexuality and female education, as well as exploring aspects like the marriage regimes some empires developed or the so-called 'servant debates'. It also presents several ways in which imperial formations were structured by gender and categories like race, class, caste, sexuality, religion and citizenship.

- The end of socialism in the Soviet Union and its satellite states ushered in a new era of choice. But personal choice is limited by a range of factors such as a person’s economic situation, class, age, government policies and social expectations, especially regarding gender roles. The notion of free choice is a crucial feature of capitalist ideology and can be manipulated in the interests of the market. This collection explores the complexity of choice in Russia and Ukraine. The contributors explore how the new choices available to people have interacted with and influenced gender identities and gender and how choice has become one of the driving forces of class-formation in countries which were, in the Soviet era, supposedly classless.

- Description
- This book chronicles the influence of second wave feminism on everything from electoral politics to LGBTQ rights. The original descriptions of second wave feminism focused on elite, white voices, obscuring the accomplishments of many activists, as third wave feminists criticized. In this book scholars provide a more complex description of second wave feminism, in which the efforts of women from many races, classes, sexual orientations, and religious traditions, in the fight for equality have had a long-term impact on American politics.
