- This article presents the results of a national survey of parenting programs in women's prisons. Parenting programs may be defined as those programs that specifically address the woman's role as mother and attempt to facilitate her performance of that role, and/or aid in the development of parental skills. These programs range from parenting classes of a few hours to nurseries where imprisoned women and their infants can live together during the term of imprisonment. The need for such programs is also discussed.

- Description
- Research on school removal, either through suspension or expulsion, typically focuses on boys who have higher rates of removal than do girls. This study compares girls to boys on proximal and distal characteristics and outcomes related to this event. Results supported known individual risk factors for school removal such as gender, race, SES, repeating a grade, and early aggressive behaviors which varied across gender by a contextual variable, that of school/community poverty. Regarding more distal risks, school removal differentially impacted later juvenile delinquency as well as early pregnancy and parenting depending on gender and the contextual factor of school/community poverty.

- Description
- The author analyses conflicts between advocacy and research on offenders and specifically male offenders. The analysis is based on the contradictory investments she had as a female researcher and an advocate during the final months of Kevin on death row until his execution. She describes how the interviews provided Kevin with a forum for enacting a powerful masculine self, a demonstration that eventually positioned the author as his victim. The assuredness of Kevin's execution allowed her to ignore his harassment and to continue data collection.
