This research brief analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on violence against women and girls, focussing on crime reported to authorities and incidents reported to helplines. The analysis covers data on violence against women and girls collected by UNODC during 2020 on four different groups: victims of homicide by intimate partners, victims of femicide, sexual assault and rape reported to the authorities and calls made to helplines supporting victims of crime and women experiencing gender-based violence.
