- Description
- 'The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics of female sexual offenders and their offending careers. It is well known that there is variation in various aspects of male sexual offending. Researchers have attempted to address this heterogeneity by developing classifications. Such classifications have been based on the age of the victim (child molesters versus rapists), the age of the offender (juvenile versus adult offenders), the presence of any co-offenders (solo-offenders versus co-offenders), whether there was physical contact with the victim (hands-on versus hands-off offenses) and offenders’criminal careers (versatile offenders versus specialized offenders). Such heterogeneity is arguably also present in female, adult, as well as juvenile sexual offenders. '

- Description
- 'This study uses the narratives of six unmarried Dutch women over the age of fifty as a lens through which to critically examine race, ethnicity, class, gender and aging in the context of Amsterdam Zuidoost. Zuidoost (Southeast) is an area of Amsterdam saturated with Dutch immigrants from former colonies, most notably Suriname. Therefore this study critically examines the ways in which the Netherlands’ history of colonialism and slavery come into play in contemporary Zuidoost, in the lives of both autochtonen and allochtonen women. Ultimately no concrete conclusions can be made because of the limiting size of the study, however themes from the stories that women tell in the categories of sexuality and relationships, experiences of race, feelings of belonging in both Zuidoost and Amsterdam, motherhood and menopause are explored through a Dutch post-colonial lens.'

- Description
- 'This thesis will contribute to the efforts of gaining an insider’s perspective on the manner young lesbian women experience their sexuality in public, a sexuality that is rendered invisible in society at large. Research regarding visibility of homosexuality in Amsterdam has traditionally been linked with safety and acceptance issues (Politie en Wetenschap, 2006: Buijs, 2008: Keuzenkamp, 2010). Research that focused specifically on lesbian women has been investigating lesbian sex in public (Alberts, 2009), lesbian visibility and leisure (Fobear, 2010) or the psychosocial problematic of lesbians (Stichting Ondersteboven, 2010). However, the strategic of how lesbian women experience and negotiate this visibility through social interaction and physical attributes has been given meager attention. .This leads me to my main research question: How do lesbian women negotiate their sexual orientation in public space? .This question can be divided in three subjects: lesbian identity, visibility and community. Therefore, I am going to answer the following sub-questions: How do young lesbian women use categories of sexuality in order to define themselves? What is the importance of these categories? And how does language influence their self-definition? How do they present this sexual identity? How visible do they think they are? How visible are other lesbians to them and how does this visibility or invisibility influence their everyday life? Finally, I will ask how my respondents feel about belonging to lesbian community.'
