- Description
- The author looks at what works in much vaunted partnerships to fight trafficking. Examining the systemic tensions, including differences in financial resources, status, race, gender, beliefs, and values, that too often hinder cross-sector collaboration in the fight against modern slavery, Foot offers insights and tools for re-thinking the power dynamics of partnering.

- Description
- This book examines how the experiences of women in conflict and post-conflict situations are shaped by the interactions between groups such as women's movements, diaspora communities, national governments, non-governmental actors and multilateral bodies. Contributions focus on Iraq and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and are based entirely on original empirical research. Issues addressed include the impact of gender mainstreaming measures: the consequences for gender relations and identities of the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq: and how transnational feminist movements can most effectively support peace building and women's rights in the region.

- Description
- Once an occupation traditionally associated with poor rural women who migrated to cities in search of work, paid domestic work is now a transnational occupational niche for millions of women from Asia's less well-off countries-including the Philippines, Indonesia, Burma, Sri Lanka, and India-who embark on sojourns to the richer countries of the world-such as Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, the Middle East and parts of Europe-in search of a more lucrative livelihood and promising futures for their families and themselves. .Transnational domestic workers are important contributors to the economies of the countries that receive them and also to their own countries through the growing volume of money sent home. Despite their crucial role in the global economy, transnational domestic workers, mostly female, continue to migrate and work under unfavorable conditions and remain highly vulnerable to exploitation. .This volume is an attempt to enhance not only academic research on transnational domestic workers, but also the ability of governments, NGOs and civil society groups-especially in sending and receiving countries-to derive appropriate policies and make recommendations to address the problems directly confronted by Asian transnational domestic workers.

- Description
- This book studies the history of genocide in Burundi, adopting a black feminist geo-political methodology, drawing on the methodological framework of 'intersectionality'. Daley pleads for reform of the processes whereby local and international bodies put together peace agreements. She examines the historical foundations of the genocidal state. She considers the influences of the pre-colonial period and colonialism on structures of power. She describes the developments in the post-colonial period, international exploitative trade, and recurrent military regimes. She also considers the violence in the region, that together with a shifting agenda of international humanitarianism results in the fact that Burundi refugees are no longer as welcom in Tanzania as they used to be.

- Description
- In the 1980s, Italy transformed from a country of emigration to one of immigration. Italians are now faced daily with the presence of migrants from all over Africa, parts of South and Central America, the Middle East, Asia, and Eastern Europe. In An Alliance of Women, Heather Merrill investigates how migrants and Italians struggle over meanings and negotiate social and cultural identities. Taking as a starting point the Italian crisis over immigration in the early 1990s, Merrill examines grassroots interethnic spatial politics among female migrants and Turin feminists in Northern Italy. Using rich ethnographic material, she traces the emergence of Alma Mater—an anti-racist organization formed to address problems encountered by migrant women. Through this analysis, Merrill reveals the dynamics of an alliance consisting of women from many countries of origin and religious and class backgrounds. Highlighting an interdisciplinary approach to migration and the instability of group identities in contemporary Italy, An Alliance of Women presents migrants grappling with spatialized boundaries amid growing nativist and anti-immigrant sentiment in Western Europe.

- Description
- NGOs headquartered in the North have been prominent actors in attempts to address the poverty, lack of political representation and labor exploitation that affect women from the global South. Feminist NGOs and NGOs focusing on women's rights have been successful in attracting attention to their causes, but critics argue that the highly educated elites from the global North and South who run them fail to question the power hierarchies in which they operate. De Jong interviewed women NGO workers in seven different European countries about their experiences and perspectives on working on gendered issues affecting women in the global South as well as migrant women in the global North.
