- Description
- 'Based on employee pipeline data from 132 companies, two broad themes emerge this year: .1 ) On average, women are promoted and hired at lower rates than men, so far fewer women become senior leaders. .(2) At more senior levels, we see women shift from line to staff roles, so very few end up on the path to becoming CEO. .Despite modest progress since 2015, women remain underrepresented in the corporate pipeline. At every step, the representation of women declines, and this does not appear to be the result of company-level attrition. On average, the women and men in this study are leaving their organizations at about the same rate.'

- Description
- This report analyzes data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia across six topical areas that affect women’s lives: political participation, employment and earnings, work and family, poverty and opportunity, health and well-being, and violence and safety. Within each of these areas, various indicators of well-being are explored. While the focus of the report is on the status of Black women, comparisons between Black women and other racial and ethnic groups of women (and men) are presented to contextualize the data. Basic demographic data for each state are also provided. The report concludes with recommendations to improve the status of Black women in the United States.

- Description
- This study takes a wide-angle, comparative lens to the lives of men – as sons and husbands and fathers, at home and at work, in public and private life – to better understand how they see their positions as men, and their attitudes and actions toward gender equality in the Middle East and North Africa. Equally important are women’s perspectives on these same issues. Its wealth of quantitative and qualitative findings complements a growing body of research on men and masculinities in the MENA region.

- Description
- 'In this report, authors present an overview of the information provided to workers in the project countries .and the extent to which they make use of it. The first way in which women can get answers to their questions is by visiting the information that is provided on the websites, as over 6 million people from these 12 countries did in the last year. Authors firstly describe the information that is provided for free through the WageIndicator websites. Then authors analyse the relative frequency at which the different topics are being consulted by web visitors, by studying the 11 million page views that the websites got between May 2014 and May 2015. .The second way that workers can address the Labour Rights for Women project for answers is through direct contact with the local teams. In the second part of this report, authors relate the experiences of local team members, who answer questions sent via email or posed in meetings and work place visits. Together, these two analyses provide a picture of the issues that women workers in the twelve countries deal with and the problems they attempt to solve.'

- Description
- 'With an aging population and declining productivity growth, Europe faces serious challenges to raising its output growth. Adding to these challenges are the various gender gaps in the labor market. Despite significant progress in recent decades, there are still fewer women than men participating in Europe’s labor market, and women are more likely to work part time. Furthermore, a smaller share of women reaches the top rungs of the corporate ladder. .Against this backdrop, this paper investigates the drivers of female labor force participation in Europe as well as what effects greater gender diversity in senior corporate positions might have for Europe’s economic performance. Reexamining the factors driving women’s labor force participation is particularly important because in many European countries the process of closing the gender gap has stalled despite greater gender equality in human capital investment, declining birth rates, changing social norms, and equal legal access to employment opportunities. .For women in Europe the decision to work is not simply a matter of personal choice—policies matter, too. .More women in the labor force paves the way for increased diversity in senior corporate positions and better firm performance. The empirical evidence suggests a strong positive association between firms’ gender diversity in senior positions and corporate financial performance.'

- Description
- Women in the Workplace 2017 is a study of the state of women in corporate America. This research is part of a long-term partnership between McKinsey & Company and LeanIn.Org to give organizations the information they need to promote women’s leadership and foster gender equality. In 2017 222 companies employing more than 12 million people shared their pipeline data and completed a survey of HR practices. In addition, more than 70,000 employees completed a survey designed to explore their experiences regarding gender, opportunity, career, and work-life issues. We also interviewed women from different races and ethnicities at all levels in their organization. The 2017 findings build on reports from 2016 and 2015, as well as similar research conducted by McKinsey & Company in 2012. Since 2012, more than 350 companies have participated— many for multiple years—and close to 200,000 employees have been surveyed.

- Description
- 'In this final policy package a wide range of experts from civil society, policy, research and employers develop a much deeper understanding for the challenges in reconciling work and family life and to showcase different practices, which were used as inspiration for drawing up concrete policy recommendations. In the last few years, there has been a growing demand for policies that support the achievement of the targets on gender equality, closing the gender and pension pay gap, women’s participation in decision making, the Barcelona targets for early childhood education and care, and a better reconciliation between work and family life. In the context of the EU 2020 Strategy, whilst not framed as a headline target, reconciliation measures have nevertheless been recognised at EU level as important means of achieving major policy objectives.'

- Description
- 'Authors examine the extent to which Collective Bargaining Agreements contributes to the empowerment of women in work. 186 Collective bargaining agreements are compared in Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda in terms of pay, working hours and work-family clauses. Almost all agreements have clauses regarding wages, but only 26 out of 186 have detailed pay scales showing what workers in different occupations should earn. .Up to 84% contain clauses on standard working hours, schedules and holidays. Just over six in ten agreements .guarantee paid maternity leave and offer job security after maternity leave. .On average, the agreements offer better working conditions than the legal requirements in every country. .Only one of the collective agreements has set working hours that are longer than the legal standard, .four in ten agreements copy the legal standard exactly, whereas nearly six in ten offer shorter hours. Two .agreements offer shorter annual leaves than the statutory entitlement, three in ten agreements follow the law .and all others offer longer leaves. However, the collective agreements do not always offer more maternity .leave than the law. While three in four agreements copy the law, 17% offer less than the legal standard. In .Mozambique, South Africa and Uganda, collective agreements sometimes offer only the compulsory leave, .meaning the duration of weeks that it is legally forbidden for the mother to work, rather than the standard .provisions for paid maternity leave.'

- Description
- 'Report which addresses the work-life balance of carers of dependent persons by examining three main social policy arrangements: leave schemes, cash benefits and benefits in kind. To this end, the 35 ESPN Country Teams provided, first, a brief description of the main features of their national long-term care (LTC) systems and, secondly, an assessment of the implementation of the aforementioned policy arrangements. Particular attention was given to the coverage and take-up of benefits, the impact of work-life balance policies on the employment situation of caregivers and on the well-being of the carers (mostly female relatives) and cared-for persons.'

Since then, close to 600 companies have participated in the study, more than a quarter of a million people were surveyed on their workplace experiences. Every year, the number of companies participating in this study has increased. This year, 329 companies employing more than 13 million people shared their pipeline data or completed a survey of their HR practices. In addition, more than 68,500 employees were surveyed on their workplace experiences, and we interviewed women and men of different races and ethnicities, LGBTQ women and men, and women with disabilities at all levels in their organizations for additional insights.

- Description
- 'This, the sixth annual European Jobs Monitor report, looks in more detail at recent shifts (from the second quarter (Q2) of 2011 to 2016 Q2) in employment at Member State and aggregate EU levels. Part 1 of the report applies a ‘jobs-based approach’ to describe employment shifts quantitatively (how many jobs were created or destroyed and in what sectors) and qualitatively (what kinds of jobs they were, primarily in terms of average hourly pay). Part 2, a more analytical section, discusses the role that occupations play in structuring European wage inequality, and to what extent the observed patterns of job polarisation and upgrading have contributed to wage inequality trends in the last decade.'
