- Description
- 'This survey shows that mothers express their need to be valued and listened to. No matter their background, age, or socio-demographic profile, 11,000 mothers across Europe have expressed similar opinions, wishes and concerns. Respondent mothers have a strong sense of responsibility towards their families and children. They also know that being a mother is essential to them, to their children, to their family and to society. For most .European families, time is a difficult issue because of the tension between employment and family life, and in particular during the “rush hour” of their life. Employers, policy makers and public opinion should be aware of the .difficulty for mothers to follow a linear path in their career if they are to be more involved in the care and upbringing of their children.'

- Description
- 'A qualitative study of the influences of attitudes on work preferences and employment patterns of Dutch mothers. It shows that a woman’s employment behaviour is the result of a dynamic relationship between her personal work preferences and gender and work attitudes on the one hand, and her work experiences and cultural normative gender expectations on the other, rather than the outcome of a free choice. The study further reveals the prevalence of ‘a narrative of non-complaining’ among Dutch mothers regarding their spouses’ contribution to the home work.'

- Description
- This report collects and analyses data from the 68 countries that account for at least 95 per cent of maternal and child deaths. It produces country profiles that present coverage data for a range of key health services, including: .- Contraceptive use .- Antenatal care .- Skilled attendance at delivery .- Postnatal care .- Child health .- Financial investments in maternal, newborn and child health .- Equity of access, health systems and policy. .The 2010 report reviews progress over 2000–2010. .The report provides a mix of good and bad news. One good news message is that the under-5 child mortality rate has declined by 28 percent, from an estimated 90 deaths per 1000 live births in 1990 to 65 deaths per 1000 in 2008, accounting for a reduction of nearly 4 million child deaths per year. .Nineteen of the 68 Countdown countries now are 'on track' to meet Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4, set by 189 member nations of the United Nations General Assembly in 2000, which calls for reducing child deaths by two-thirds between the 1990 base line and 2015.
