- Description
- Ahmed shows how feminist theory is generated from everyday life and the ordinary experiences of being a feminist at home and at work. Building on legacies of feminist of color scholarship in particular, Ahmed offers a personal meditation on how feminists become estranged from worlds they critique, often by naming and calling attention to problems and how feminists learn about worlds from their efforts to transform them.

- Description

- Description
- This book explores the meanings and experiences of home among a group of lesbians who over the past five decades have sought to create alternative intimate and public living spaces. The meaning of home and domestic space emerges from life histories informed by the wider social and political context and moves from the earliest memories of their childhood kitchens to their contemporary domestic lives. The kitchen emerged as a tangle of cultural norms, customs, duties, ideas, aspirations, expectations and values that tells about the thinking process and behaviour of this group of older lesbians.

- Description
- This new edition contains a new subsection on intersectionality. Introductory essays at the beginning of each section bring the readings together, provide historical and intellectual context, and point to critical additional readings. Five core theoretical concepts: gender, difference, women’s experiences, the personal is political, and intersectionality, anchor the anthology’s organizational framework. New to this edition, text boxes in the introductory essays add excerpts from the writings of foundational theorists that help define important theoretical concepts.

- Carland talks with Muslim women about how they are making a stand for their sex, while holding fast to their faith. At a time when media talk scandalous revelations about life for women from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, Muslim women are always spoken about and over, never with. But Muslim women are diverse and fight sexism from within, as committed to the fight as they are to their faith. Hemmed in by Islamophobia and sexism, they fight against sexism with their minds, words and bodies.

- Description
- This publication asks one key question: what do we need to create stable and decent human communities that can thrive in a sustainable relationship with the larger living world? The answer of the author is feminism and a critique of patriarchy. He calls for a radical feminist challenge to institutionalized male dominance: an uncompromising rejection of men’s assertion of a right to control women’s sexuality: and a demand for an end to the violence and coercion that are at the heart of all systems of domination and subordination.
