- Description
- In this No-Nonsense Guide, van der Gaag offers a status report on the women of the world by examining issues like health, poverty, politics, law, education, the environment, violence, and sexuality. And although we are not yet living in a 'post-feminist' world and change is slow in coming, it is coming. But it is easy to forget just how recently so many women's rights have been won: and how many women still face violations of their rights on a daily basis.

- Description
- In 1977, Marcia Muller invaded the all-male domain of detective literature and within a decade was established as the mother of the female hardboiled private eye. She is now the author of four detective series, including the critically acclaimed Sharon McCone series of more than two dozen novels. This collection critically assesses Marcia Muller's writing and reevaluates current critical views on women's detective fiction in general. In the first two of the book's three sections, essays explore Muller's engagement with modern and postmodern feminism, ethnicity, and the socially underprivileged. The third section focuses on one of Muller's major themes, the trauma of history. Drawing from the feminist, historicist, mythic, psychoanalytic, and cultural approaches found in all three sections, the conclusion offers a panoramic perspective on Muller's accomplishments.

- Description
- Galactic suburbia is a cultural history of postwar women's science fiction, a genre used in the United Stated after 1945 by nearly 300 women writers. The book can be used as a reference resource for studying the science-fiction writers or as a source of information on the formation of literary genres, women's work, domesticity, and scientific endeavors. The book includes case studies of well known writers such as Judith Merril, Carol Emshwiller, and Anne McCaffrey, and of lesser known authors such as Alice Eleanor Jones, Mildred Clingerman, and Doris Pitkin Buck. Yaszek challenges conventional literaty histories that posit men as the progenitors of modern science fiction and women as followers who turned to the genre only after the advent of the women's liberation movement.

- Description
- This anthology explores the impact and contribution of post-theories in the field of Christian feminist theology. Post-theory is an important and cutting-edge discursive field which has revolutionized the production of knowledge in both feminism and theology. This book fills a gap by providing a text that can make authoritative statements on the use and status of post-theory in feminist theology, and secondly it makes an on-going contribution to the discourse of Christian feminist theology and its liberation agenda. Distinguished and established scholars contribute conclusive essays on the most recent and exciting developments in post-theory, feminism and theology.

- Description
- This introduction first looks at several definitive topics created by the western cultural notion of feminism, and western historical and religious perspectives on women, including ecofeminism, gender roles and work, notions of power, essentialism, women's leadership, sexualities, and spirituality in light of gender. The book then discusses these concepts and their history from a traditional Native American point of view. Foremost among the questions that Native American Women's Studies addresses are: How have Native American women governed their nations? How was/is the divine creatrix expressed in Native American social systems? The book focuses on the differences between the indigenous understanding of human experience in terms of gender, and that held and created by western culture.

- Description
- Ethnographic study of camgirls: women who broadcast themselves over the web for the general public while trying to cultivate a measure of celebrity in the process. The book's over-arching question is: What does it mean for feminists to speak about the personal as political in a networked society that encourages women to 'represent' through confession, celebrity and sexual display, but punishes too much visibility with conservative censure and backlash? The narrative follows that of the camgirl phenomenon, beginning with the earliest experiments in personal homecamming and ending with the newest forms of identity and community being articulated through social networking sites like Live Journal, YouTube, MySpace and Facebook. The study is grounded in interviews, performance analysis of events transpiring between camgirls and their viewers, and the author's own experiences as a camgirl while conducting the research.
