- Description
- History of the UK Women's Liberation Movement. Oral history testimonies power the work, tracing the arc of a feminist life from 1950s girlhoods to late life activism today. The author uses oral history as creative method, making significant use of ‘Sisterhood and After: The Women's Liberation Oral History Project’ to animate still-unresolved controversies of race, class, sexuality, disability, and feminist identity. She provides insight into iconic actions including the Miss World Protest, the fight to protect abortion rights, and the peace protest at Greenham Common. She also explores men's violence and today's demands for trans-liberation as areas of continuing feminist concern.

- Description
- Carland talks with Muslim women about how they are making a stand for their sex, while holding fast to their faith. At a time when media talk scandalous revelations about life for women from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, Muslim women are always spoken about and over, never with. But Muslim women are diverse and fight sexism from within, as committed to the fight as they are to their faith. Hemmed in by Islamophobia and sexism, they fight against sexism with their minds, words and bodies.

- Description
- Goss examines how women's civic place has changed over the span of more than 120 years, how public policy has driven these changes, and why these changes matter for women and American democracy. Suffrage, which granted women the right to vote and invited their democratic participation, provided a dual platform for the expansion of women's policy agendas. As measured by women's groups' appearances before the U.S. Congress, women's collective political engagement continued to grow between 1920 and 1960—when many conventional accounts claim it declined—and declined after 1980, when it might have been expected to grow. .Goss suggests that ascriptive differences are not necessarily barriers to disadvantaged groups' capacity to be heard: that enhanced political inclusion does not necessarily lead to greater collective engagement: and that rights movements do not necessarily constitute the best way to understand the political participation of marginalized groups. She asks what women have gained—and perhaps lost—through expanded incorporation as well as whether single-sex organizations continue to matter in 21st-century America.

- Description
- This is a textbook in U.S. women’s history to present an inclusive narrative within the context of the central developments of U.S. history and to integrate written and visual primary sources into each chapter. The result was to 'reveal the relationship between secondary and original sources, to show history as a dynamic process of investigation and interpretation rather than a set body of facts and figures.' The book focuses on women from a broad range of ethnicities, classes, religions, and regions. With a signature of Ellen Dubois

- Description
- Feminisme.

- Description
- With this book Chancer takes stock of the American feminist movement. She articulates four common causes ( advancing political and economic equality, allowing intimate and sexual freedom, ending violence against women and expanding the cultural representation of women ) considering each in turn to assess what has been gained (or not). It is around these shared concerns, Chancer argues, that we can continue to build a vibrant and expansive feminist movement and articulates a broad agenda developed through advancing intersectional concerns about class, race, and sexuality.

- Description
- Rhode analyzes the challenges the feminist movement faces today. She focuses on five main topics: employment issues such as pay discrimination, work-life balance and the government's pitiful response, the assault on women's reproductive rights and the limits it places on their economic mobility, sexual harassment and violence, and the detrimental effect that the unfashionable label 'feminist' can have, especially in attracting young women to the movement. Despite these obstacles, Rhode thinks that the goals and principles of feminism are widely accepted by the American mainstream.

- Seidman presents insights from twenty-five feminist activists from around the United States, ranging in age from twenty to fifty. Allowing their voices to take center stage through the use of in-depth oral history interviews, Seidman places their narratives in historical context and argues that they help explain how recent new forms of activism developed so quickly.

- Description
- Phyllis Chesler was a pioneer of Second Wave Feminism. Chesler and the women who came out between 1972-1975 brought class action lawsuits on behalf of economic discrimination, opened rape crisis lines and shelters for battered women, held marches and sit-ins for abortion and equal rights. They began the first-ever national and international public conversations about birth control and abortion, sexual harassment, violence against women, female orgasm, and a woman’s right to kill in self-defense. The feminist movement has changed over the years, but Chesler knew some of its first pioneers, including Gloria Steinem, Kate Millett and Andrea Dworkin. Some had been viewed as whores, witches, and madwomen, but were changing the world and becoming major players in history.
