- Description
- This book explores the relationship between male games and violence against women. Many of the games men play are territorial, and many of them even simulate war. They are characterized by the need to dominate over others, especially over women. In real wars, such as the gulf war, metafors are used that are derived from games and sports. The author states that expressions of misogynist violence are the result of a culturally constructed psychological need to conform to a specific male identity. He calls this the 'masculinist psychic economy'. Cultural shifts in the way men regard women are possible. The theoretical framework of the book is formed by theories of Freud, Lacan, Irigaray, Chodorow, Adorno, René Girard, and George Bataille.
