- Description
- Author decribes the experiences of Dutch women who have paid for sexual intimacy with a gigolo. Author wants to contribute to the acknowledgement of the diversity in the sex industry and to raise the question why the gender variable is not taken seriously in current prostitution paradigms. Sex workers have various reasons for entering the trade, they even do not experience the work in the same way. Not all sex workers are women and not all customers are men. Author hopes do shed some light on different needs, desires and demands of clients of sex workers, especially when the tabes are turned and women, not men, are on the demand side.

- Description
- Author wrote a thesis on the Castrum Peregrini where she was an intern. Castrum Peregrini is a WWII heritage site, cultural foundation and cross-disciplinary network in Amsterdam. Dutch painter Gisèle van Waterschoot van der Gracht opened up her apartment at the Herengracht 401 in 1942 to take in German-Jewish students and teachers from the Quaker School Eerde in Ommen. Since the second half of the 1950s Castrum Peregrini has functioned as a living community and a rather esoteric publishing house run by exiled German poet Wolfgang Frommel and the young men that survived the war at the Herengracht. Nowadays Castrum Peregrini has developed into a centre for the intellectual and artistic exploration and an international network of artists, poets, writers, scientists and politicians.

- Description
- In this article authors examine the diffusion of Muslim veil-ban laws within the last decade in France, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. The bans on full-face Muslim veiling are rooted in several systemic, normative, and political accounts and advocated by contrasting political ideologies. Methodologically, this paper employs an integrative perspective to explain the process of diffusion in some countries but not in others, by exploring both external and internal factors that led to policy innovation. Overall, full-face Muslim veil bans in Western Europe have been intended to accelerate cultural integration of minorities to European values and traditions, but have been challenged by Muslim minorities in the region and their rights of expression and religion.
