This collection of studies explores the lives of European women in the early modern period, whose gender hindered the practice of their personal, political and religious agency. The focus is on conflicts that occurred when they crossed the edges society placed on their gender. Many of the women featured, were previously overlooked, such as chemist Marie Meurdrac, prophet Anna Trapnel and princess Elizabeth Stuart.
