- Description
- How relevant does gender remain to premodern history in the twenty-first century? This book considers this question in eight case studies that span the European continent from 1400 to 1800. An introductory essay examines the category of gender in historiography and specifically within premodern historiography, as well as the issue of source material for historians of the period.

- Description
- This book takes a look at applications of gender budgeting in Europe. It comprises three sections that work through conceptual definitions of gender budget analysis. These sections explore how it can be framed and constructed as a gender equality policy: investigate case studies across Europe: and examine challenges for implementation. The book explores conceptual and methodological variations evidence in practice in Europe and the challenges of adoption and implementation in different political and institutional contexts. It brings together historical and current conceptual developments and tensions: approaches, methodologies, and tools in practice across Europe: activism, actors and agency and the engagement of formal institutions at all levels of government with feminist policy changes and feminist analysis and activists.

- Description
- This book offers an overview of established and emerging manifestations of domestic violence across Europe. It describes how countries within and outside the EU are responding to the problem in policy, practice and research. The issues addressed include: - the cultural challenges of combating abuse forms most prevalent in migrant communities such as female genital mutilation and forced marriage: - emerging problems such as child-to-parent violence, teenage relationship violence and digital intimate partner abuse: and - barriers to help-seeking faced by marginalised victims such as LGBTQ and older people.

- Description
- This volume considers three significant developments: the ever-changing role of women in society: a significant dissatisfaction with current dominant understandings of corporate governance, corporate law and corporate theory: and the increasing concern to establish sustainable business models globally. A range of female scholars from different disciplines interconnect these ideas in this collection of essays on female activism and the corporation, secondly on liberal attempts to include women in business leadership and, finally, on critiquing the modern focus on women as a 'fix' for ethical and unsustainable business practises which currently dominates the corporate world.

- Description
- The texts gathered in this volume embrace women artists-only exhibitions, festivals, collective art projects, groups and associations, organised in the long 1970s in Europe (1968-1984). This book presents examples from Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Germany (East and West), The Netherlands, France and Sweden. While each chapter is largely devoted to one country, the authors point to how the local and specific political situation in which these initiatives emerged is linked to global tendencies as well as inter-European exchanges.

- Description
- This book re-evaluates and extends understandings about how work was conceived and what it could entail for women in the premodern period in Europe from c. 1100 to c. 1800. It does this by building on the growth in literature on women’s working experiences, and by adopting new interpretive approaches that expand received assumptions about what constituted 'work' for women.

The book summarizes prominent gender budgeting initiatives in more than 80 countries. - Description

- Description
- This collection explores family relations in two types of 'migrant families' in Europe: mixed families and transnational families. Based on qualitative fieldwork and surveys, the contributors analyse gender and intergenerational relations from a variety of standpoints and migratory flows. In their examination of family life in a migratory context, the authors develop theoretical approaches from the social sciences that go beyond migration studies, such as intersectionality, the solidarity paradigm, care circulation, reflexive modernization and gender convergence theory.

- Description
- This book explores the uncharted territory of women’s religious Enlightenment. Each chapter offers a biographical insight into the social and cultural context of female Enlighteners and how Catholic women in Europe used the thought and values of Enlightenment to articulate their beliefs about how to live their faith in the world. The collection of portraits within this book offers a closer look into the new understanding of womanhood that emerged from Enlightenment culture and was conceived independently from marital relationships. They also highlight the distinctive contributions that women made to political and religious philosophy, spirituality and mysticism, and the efforts to bring scientific knowledge to the attention of other women.
