- Description
- This book addresses contemporary philosophical issues in higher education and how we can create socially just pedagogies and a socially just university. Gross inequalities in higher education continue to affect pedagogical practices across geopolitical contexts. The approaches of this book also provide imaginative ways of engaging with current dissatisfactions with higher education, from the marketization of education, to issues of racism, discrimination and lack of diversity.

- Description
- This book reconnects the roots of black feminism to contemporary activism in the United States, describing the contributions of the black feminist organization, the Combahee River Collective (CRC). Forty years ago, in 1977, the CRC founders published a statement the so-called Combahee River Collective Statement. One remarkable aspect of this radical collective was its intersectional analysis of the roots of black women's oppression and inequality. In this collection of interviews, founding members of the CRC and contemporary activists - e.g. from #BlackLivesMatter - reflect on the legacy of its contributions to black feminism and its influence on today's struggles.

- Description
- Using Sherna Berger Gluck and Daphne Patai’s classic text, ‘Women’s Words’, as a platform to reflect on how feminisms, broadly defined, have influenced, and continue to influence, the wider field of oral history, this collection brings together an international, multi-generational, and multidisciplinary line-up of authors whose work highlights the great variety in understandings of, and approaches to, feminist oral histories. Through five thematic sections, the volume considers Indigenous modes of storytelling, feminism in diverse locales around the globe, different theoretical approaches, oral history as performance, digital oral history, and oral history as community-engagement.

- Description
- Collection of essays on the life and work of activist and journalist Ida B. Wells-Barnett (1862-1931). Known as an anti-lynching crusader, Ida B. Wells-Barnett worked throughout her life as a political advocate for the rights of women, minorities and members of the working class. This volume provides insight into communication techniques such as lecture circuits, public relations campaigns and investigative journalism, which Wells-Barnett used to combat racism and sexism and to promote social equity. Also her dual career as a journalist and political agitator, her advocacy efforts on (inter)national and local level and her role as a bridge in key social movements of the nineteenth and twentieth century, are considered.
