- Description
- Highlighting the strength and diversity of feminist perspectives this collection shows how issues of re-conceiving desire, theorizing embodiment and materiality, interrogating the status of sexuality and difference, decentring feminist practice to be inclusive of transnational and de-colonial concerns, critiques of binary logic and gender, transversal politics, and the need for new political visions in light of advanced capitalism are all enhanced by this alliance.

- Description
- The essays in this book reveal the diverse ways black women experience and represent sexuality. The contributors highlight the range of tactics that black women use to express their sexual desires and identities. .The authors take not only an interdisciplinary approach, but also an intergenerational one, in conversation with the foremothers of black feminist studies. In addition, the book explores a diverse archive of representations, covering everything from blues to hip-hop, from Crash to Precious, from Sister Souljah to Edwidge Danticat. Revealing that black female sexuality is anything but a black-and-white issue, this collection demonstrates how to appreciate a whole spectrum of subjectivities, experiences, and desires.

- Description
- This book takes on fundamental questions at the intersections of gender, sexuality, and the body. Several questions frame the volume: How does studying gender and sexuality expand and enrich our understanding of Muslim-majority countries, historically and at present? How does the embodiment of ’Muslim’ identity get reconfigured in the context of twenty-first-century globalism? What analytical questions are raised about ’Islam’ when its diverse meanings and multifaceted expressions are closely examined? What roles do gender and sexuality play in the construction of cultural, religious, nationalistic, communal, and militaristic identities? How have power struggles been signified in and on the bodies of women and sexuality?

- Description
- This volume combines theory and practice to provide an introduction to contemporary feminist and sexuality research. It demonstrates how the notion of gender has been criticized by various theories pertaining to masculinity, feminism and sexuality. It also illustrates how the ordering system of gender has been troubled or overcome in practice: in queer performance, legal critique, the classroom and textual analysis.

- Description
- This book is a study of global feminist activism that opposes neoliberal regimes across several sites including Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Latin America and the United States. The feminist performative acts featured in the book contest the aggressive unravelling of collectively won gains in gender, sexual and racial equality, the appearance of new planes of discrimination, and the social consequences of political economies based on free market ideology. The investigations of affect theory follow the circulation of intensities – of political impingements on bodies, subjective and symbolic violence, and the shock of dispossession – within and beyond individuals to the social and political sphere.

- Description
- By analyzing the negotiation of femininities and masculinities within contemporary Hollywood cinema and by focusing on the largely neglected intersections between postfeminism and queer theory this volume presents diverse interrogations of popular cinema. The chapters in this collection position contemporary commercial production as a space where female empowerment is both celebrated and undermined, and signal the necessity of further debate surrounding the formation of gender identity in postmillennial Hollywood cinema.

- Description
- Feminism is one of the most important perspectives from which visual culture has been theorized and historicized over the past forty years. Challenging the notion of feminism as a unified discourse, this second edition of The Feminism and Visual Culture Reader assembles 73 articles that address art, film, architecture, popular culture, new media and other visual fields from a feminist perspective. Articles are grouped into thematic sections, each of which is introduced by the editor. Providing a framework within which to understand the shifts in feminist thinking in visual studies, as well as an overview of major feminist theories of the visual, this reader also explores how issues of race, class, nationality, and sexuality enter into debates about feminism in the field of the visual.

- Focusing on issues such as worker identity, marital and family relations, consumer culture, leisure, sexuality, reproduction, activism, and resistancethis book reveals that women experienced socialism in diverse and in some cases empowering ways. This book studies state policy, gender relations and women’s and men’s lives, illustrating that there is no simple, coherent narrative of life under state socialism, but rather multiple, competing, and often contradictory ones.

- Does gender make a difference to the way the judiciary works and should work? Or, is gender blindness a built-in prerequisite of judicial objectivity? If gender does make a difference, how might this be defined? These are the key questions posed in this collection of essays. The book's pressing topicality is underlined by the fact that male opposition to women's admission to, and progress within, the judicial profession has been largely based on the argument that, because of their gender, women are naturally programmed to show empathy, partiality, and gendered prejudice - in short, essential qualities running directly counter to the need for judicial bjectivity. There remains a more or less pronounced glass ceiling to women's judicial careers.
