- Description
- Face veil controversies have become a common currency in the British media. Author shows that the characteristics of fervent debate do not only reproduce familiar stereotypes, but also obliterate the discussion about veiling within Muslim communities in Britain. What is left unseen is that reservations about the veil are not about British versus Muslim values but about different perspectives of British citizens.

- Description of the way in which Hampton draws together the contradictory positions of Hobbes and Kant to produce a test for exploitation in personal relationships and the ways in which this work fits with Hampton's analysis of retribution, gratitude and self-worth. Hampton’s work is evaluated in the context of Carole Pateman’s argument that moral theories distract from the political analysis of who has a voice in relationships.

- Description
- The guest editors of this special issue on femininity were intrigued with how 'femininity' might be understood, and reading through the papers they were struck by a consistent theme: femininity is no longer seen to originate in, and to be defined by the relationship with man and 'lack'. This issue contains the following articles: 'Femininity and its unconscious 'shadows': gender and generative identity in the age of biotechnology' by Joan Raphael-Leff : 'Is our sexuality our own? A developmental model of sexuality based on early affect mirroring' by Mary Target : and 'New psychoanalytic theories of female and male femininity: the Oedipus complex, language and gender embodiment' by Marie Maguire and Hilary Dewing.

- Description
- This volume analyzes mediated articulations of 'cosmopatriotism' in East and South-East Asian popular cultures and arts. Cosmopatriots navigate between a loyalty to the home country and a sense of longing for and belonging to the world. Rather than searching for the truly globalized cosmopolitans, the authors of this collection look for the postcolonial, rooted cosmopolitans who insist on thinking and feeling simultaneously beyond and within the nation. The cultural sites they discuss include Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Singapore, the United States, South Korea and Australia. This volume is divided into 4 parts: sex, space, body and race.
