- Description
- The main goal of this study is to consider how the relations between gender, diaspora and youth culture are digitally articulated by Moroccan-Dutch youths between the age of 12 and 18 years old. Combining new media, gender and postcolonial theory, the researcher carried out a transdisciplinary analysis of a young ethnic-minority population whose contribution to digital culture is still undertheorized. In particular he explored how Moroccan-Dutch youths participate in and appropriate digital spaces in order to convey their belongings across multiple axes of identification such as gender, sexuality, diaspora, religion and youth-culture.

- Description
- 'The study aims to analyze the representation of Muslim women in Dutch society. Using ethnicity, gender, and political thought (regarding feminism) it attempts to demonstrate the lived realities of Dutch Muslims in the Netherlands. The paper finds that all Dutch Muslims face some degree of discrimination by the state and are conflicted about what constitutes being Dutch. They also accept feminism on an individual level but reject it as political ideology.'

- Description
- This article examines the role translation played in the careers of three Dutch women writers by showing how they used their role as translators to establish and renegotiate their name and (literary) authority, often by interacting directly with the reputation of the translated author. The authors will use the concept of ‘relational authority’ to address the ways in which Elizabeth Wolff, Christina Leonora de Neufville and Margaretha Cambon-Van der Werken used translation as a textual platform to convey their intellectual posture and voice. The analysis will focus specifically on both the textual and visual dimension of their public image-building by considering how ‘relational’ representations appear in paratexts and portraits respectively.

- Description
- Urgency Required focuses on urgent issues of gay and lesbian liberation, taking a historical perspective and reflecting worldwide geographic diversity. Employing the term ‘LGBT-persons’, the acronym used for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, it explores concepts and strategies for taking steps towards decriminalization and equal rights and treatment regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. From subtle discrimination to imprisonment, torture, the death penalty and murder: human rights violations against sexual minorities are carried out on a daily basis around the world, not least by governments, in breach of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, promulgated since 1948. In some eighty countries, gays and lesbians are still regarded as criminals, sometimes awaiting life imprisonment or the death penalty. Not even recognized as human beings, they can be denied rights covered by the whole range of human rights legislation.
