- Description
- Author starts with looking back at the main tactic adopted during the Taipei prostitutes' movement, namely, the 'poverty as force' rationale, and argues that a campaign strategy that focuses on the justification of prostitutes' consent to their job does not help them much: instead, it reinforces the stigma on 'voluntary' prostitutes. Author argues that a focus on the practical working condition of sex workers is a more realistic and feasible strategy to prevent sex workers from being victimized.

It was found that the overall good physical health of the workers was affected by these factors: overtime, mental work, close monitoring, medium industries, poor quality of work, and hazardous work. Contrary to the belief that IT is light and stimulating, assembly line workers have reported rather issues in both objective and subjective occupational conditions affecting their health.

- Description
- This study analyses the socio-economic and health status of women workers in the informal sector in Chennai, India. Women homeworkers face many issues such as long hours of work, low wages, meagre rates per piece, lack of social security and lack of union or organizational support. More importantly, their conditions of work and health are deplorable. The findings reveal that female home-based workers are subject to multiple forms of exploitation such as low wages, delayed and irregular payments and sporadic work. In conclusion, the researcher states that despite these problems, home-based work is the most suitable avenue for poverty alleviation and employment generation among urban women. However, low wages, lack of micro-capital for entrepreneurial ventures and non-payment of dues on time are serious issues that these workers face.
