International comparative research on home education in contemporary Japan. The term 'home education' refers to education given to children by parents and other adults in the home. Characteristics studied are related to the situations of families and children and to changes in the home and family. Chapters are on: family situations and characteristics of the children, everyday life of parents and children, child discipline and expectations for the child, balance between family life and work and child rearing support.
