Glory, passion, and principle
This book tells the story of eight women who helped found and form the country that is America today, women as important in their own way as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson, but completely overlooked in the annals of history. Among these women are Abigail Adams, wife to one president and mother to another, a great intellect in her own right: Sybil Ludington, the female Paul Revere, who took a daring ride twice as long—and dangerous—to warn the Patriots the British were coming: Deborah Samson, the first female Sergeant, who disguised herself as a man to fight in the Continental Army.- Creator

Out of the ivory tower
As this collection demonstrates, feminist scholars are producing a rich and diverse body of knowledge within their universities today. Often they work in isolation from one another and often their knowledge is not disseminated to the broader community. From its inception, the goal of this collection has been to publicize the work of feminist research across the disciplines and to foster an open and inclusive communication between academic and community feminists. These essays bring to the fore a constellation of concerns that are linked to the broader women's movement and to global feminism, ranging from recovering histories to the rise of global connectivity. The essays together create a complex and dynamic interconnection of voices that speak to feminists both in academia and in the wider world.- Creator

While you're away
This study draws on diaries, letters and interviews of New Zealand military nurses who worked in South Africa from 1899 to 1902, in many wars from 1914 to 1918, in Spain during the Civil War and in a variety of countries from 1939 to 1948. The author examines their personal stories in order to show how they not only faced physical danger and suffer illness and exhaustion, but also fought male prejudice and struggled for recognition of their status.- Creator

Serving our country
Following the 1945 attack on Pearl Harbor and America's declaration of war on Japan, the U.S. War Department allowed up to five hundred second-generation, or 'Nisei', Japanese American women to join the Women's Army Corps and, in smaller numbers, the Army Medical Corps. Through in-depth interviews with surviving Nisei women, Moore provides firsthand accounts of their service.- Creator
