Gender-based violence and environment linkages
This publication serves as a knowledge base to understand and enforce action concerning gender-based violence (GBV) and environmental issues. It argues that gender-based abuse is observed across environmental contexts and affects the security of communities and the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs). The analysis shows the interlinking nature of GBV across three main contexts: access to and control of natural resources (land, forests, agriculture, water and fisheries): environmental pressure and threats (environmental crimes, extractive industries and agribusiness and climate change and weather-related disasters): and environmental action to defend and conserve ecosystems and resources (women environmental human rights defenders, environmental projects and environmental workplaces). The publication focuses on awareness and engagement of actors working in environmental and sustainable development, gender equality and GBV policymaking to apply rights-based, gender-responsive approaches to environmental policy, programmes and projects. The publication contains a list of case studies.- Creator

Women in the labor force
Discussion note on the effects of gender-responsive fiscal policies on women’s labor participation in the last three decades. It also explores how these policies affect gender wage gaps, economic growth, income inequality and poverty in both advanced economies and low-income countries. For advanced economies, it focuses on for example reducing the cost of childcare and providing publicly financed maternity leave. For low-income countries, the note considers the impact of investing in education, providing cash transfers to poor women in the labor force and investing in infrastructure. Results show that gender-responsive fiscal policies can support female labor force participation and have important macroeconomic effects.- Creator

Making rural roads work for both women and men
Making rural roads work for both women and men
Rural transport projects that ignore the transport needs of segments of the target population run the risk of achieving suboptimal development impacts. Where women’s and girls' transport needs and constraints are ignored, for example, girls' school enrolments may remain low, women may be cut off from productive economic activities, and family members may be unable to access health care and other basic services. Rural women are among the groups whose transport needs and constraints are most likely to be excluded. Yet in most rural communities, women as much as men have transport needs associated with economic activity, schooling, access to health services and other activities important for community development and household well-being. -

COVID-19 at the intersection of gender & disability
This report presents findings of a survey on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the lives of women, girls, non-binary, trans, and gender non-conforming persons with disabilities. It summarizes findings related to health, meeting basic needs and violence, presenting the voices of one hundred respondents across the globe. Survey respondents fear healthcare shortages combined with discrimination would impede them from receiving needed care, have trouble meeting their basic needs and fear for their personal safety. The report ends with policy recommendations for states, UN agencies, healthcare and violence services about how to ensure that issues at the intersection of gender and disability are included in COVID-19 responses.- Creator

Poverty reduction through gender-disaggregrated analysis of public expenditures
Poverty reduction through gender-disaggregrated analysis of public expenditures
Public expenditure reviews can help governments target their expenditures to promote pro-poor growth and assist poor and vulnerable groups. This targeting will be most effective when it is informed by gender-disaggregated data analysis.
