The status of black women in the United States
This report analyzes data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia across six topical areas that affect women’s lives: political participation, employment and earnings, work and family, poverty and opportunity, health and well-being, and violence and safety. Within each of these areas, various indicators of well-being are explored. While the focus of the report is on the status of Black women, comparisons between Black women and other racial and ethnic groups of women (and men) are presented to contextualize the data. Basic demographic data for each state are also provided. The report concludes with recommendations to improve the status of Black women in the United States.- Creator

Gender equity and male engagement
Gender equity and male engagement
In this report, supported by Cartier Philanthropy, ICRW provides a historical overview of the nearly 40-year-old male engagement field, as well as guidance for stakeholders on how to support the funding, design, and implementation of programming that engages men and boys in transforming gender norms. The insights they offer are drawn from published and grey literature, key informant interviews, and a convening of global experts on male engagement programming for gender equity and women’s empowerment. Specifically, this report details approaches, challenges, and best practices for working with men to achieve gender equity in six sectors: violence against women and girls, health, economic empowerment, care work and fatherhood, land rights and agriculture, and political participation. -

Women in politics in the EU
Women in politics in the EU
A hundred years after women won the vote or were first elected to parliament in some EU countries, the data show that women continue to be under-represented in politics and public life, in the European Parliament, national parliaments and governments, and local assemblies. The EU has committed to achieving a gender balance in political representation and participation as a matter of justice, equality and democracy. Recommendations have been made for achieving this goal, including specific action that could be taken by the EU institutions, national governments, political parties, civil society and the media. -

Freedom versus equality?
Paper is exploring structural elements for the absence of mechanisms for the promotion of gender equality in Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland: (1) the phenomenon of aversion to feminism, (2) the prevailing anti-state and anti-institutionalist attitude, and (3) the liberal democratic legitimization which supports the way of institution building and legislation that create new gender differences and discriminate against women in political and social areas. The first part of the paper concentrates upon political institutions, legitimizing ideologies and political agenda, the second part attempts to point out the paradoxical split between the phenomenon of widespread gender ideologies and the actual realistic position of women.- Creator

Gender and governance: supporting resources collection
This Supporting Resources Collection (SRC) showcases existing work on gender and governance. It presents a .mix of conceptual and research papers, policy briefings, advocacy documents, case study material, and practical .tools from diverse regions and disciplines, focusing on different aspects of governance. By bringing together .multiple perspectives and approaches from diverse contexts, we hope to prompt a better understanding of the .gender dynamics in governance institutions at global, national and local levels, of what needs to change in order .to make governance more gender sensitive. A key aim of the SRC is to support greater dialogue and sharing of .good practice among people working on distinct yet related governance issues. • How can we reframe understandings, goals and practices of governance to put gender equality and the
realisation of rights at its centre?
• How can we analyse governance institutions and processes from a gender perspective to expose genderblind
policy and discriminatory practices?
• How can governments – as central and essential instruments of governance – work with and be influenced
by other locations of governance such as household, community, national, or global institutions?
• How can we enable greater participation of women in governance processes – from the high-level to citizenled
– and find strategies to ensure they have the capacity and institutional support to make a difference?
• How can we change the governance institutions themselves so that they are responsive to the differing
needs of women, challenge gender inequality and promote the realisation of women’s rights?
• Which accountability mechanisms need to be in place to ensure governance institutions?- Creator

Gender and governance
Governance processes – with their emphasis on principles of accountability, transparency, responsiveness and inclusiveness – should be a means to social transformation. But despite this potential, they are failing to deliver on gender equality, and women are having to struggle to get their voices heard and needs met. This Cutting Edge Pack maps out persistent obstacles to gender equality in governance and offers possible ways forward - including promoting gender balance in positions of authority, making rights central to governance institutions and processes at all levels, and building political will for change.- Creator

Turning promises into progress report
Over the last two decades there have been many new commitments and increasing political rhetoric on gender equality and the realisation of rights for women and girls, but limited real progress in achieving either. This report concludes that this is, in part, because the underlying causes of gender equality have not been addressed and there was insufficient political will to make the changes needed on the ground. Detailed recommendations for concrete action to turn rhetoric into change are outlined throughout the report.- Creator

Every last girl
Every last girl
'This report looks at how gender equality can be promoted and how to get power where it belongs – in the hands of every last girl. .It explores three key barriers that hold girls back: .• child marriage .• poor access to good-quality services – including health and education .• girls’ lack of a voice in private and public spheres. .These three barriers are violations of girls’ rights. They also pose formidable obstacles to progress in other areas of development. .In addition, it sheds light on levels of gender discrimination around the world, and highlights the countries where girls’ rights are most at risk. .It also identifies three specific guarantees will help governments reach the girls who are furthest behind – such as those who live in fragile and conflict-affected states, those who are on the move as refugees, those in the poorest countries and in disadvantaged regions, and those who face multiple forms of discrimination.'
