In its first part, the global overview, the report profiles documented conflict-related sexual violence in 51 countries – in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East - that have experienced armed conflict over the past twenty years. The second part of the report, 'Implications for the security sector', explores strategies for security and justice actors to prevent and respond to sexual violence in armed conflict and post-conflict situations.- Creator

African Civil Society Beijing +20 Shadow Report
African Civil Society Beijing +20 Shadow Report
'2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the agreement signed by 189 countries that attended the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. Over the last two decades, Africa has made significant strides in developing progressive frameworks to advance the rights of women. This report is structured around four main sections: the first section offers an overview of the evolution of the socio-economic and political terrain within which women’s rights work has occurred. The second substantive sections summarises the key findings from the 51 state reports and the trends noted across all 51 state reports that were submitted to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The third substantive section looks at the 12 critical areas, assessing gaps in state reporting and highlighting illustrative examples where innovation and/or where progress has occurred in specific states. These illustrations are not designed to highlight what all 51 reporting states have done in the 12 areas. The final section concludes with a set of recommendations.' -

Continuities of gendered violence in conflict making political economy visible
Collection of articles from young feminists on gendered violence in conflict-affected regions. DAWN (Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era) initiated the research project “Political Economy of Conflict and Violence against Women” in order to improve advocacy and scholarship on gender-based violence in political economies of conflict. Through case studies of both conflict and post-conflict zones in Mozambique, Palestine, South Africa, and Liberia, the book provides perspectives on how violence against women is embedded in local political economies of war, conflict and transition. The case studies build on DAWN’s book The Political Economy of Conflict and Violence against Women: Cases from the South (2019), addressing violence against women in conflict zones across the global South.- Creator

Missing millions
Study of the experiences of older people with disabilities in humanitarian crises. The research methods used included a literature review and interviews with different target groups in Western Tanzania and Eastern Ukraine as well as international agencies working in humanitarian response. Besides, six disability comparison surveys were analysed, including databases from two crises-affected populations in Haiti and Palestine and data from India, Guatemala, Cameroon and Nepal. Results show that older people with disabilities were confronted with more barriers that empeded them to escape from danger and exercise their right to humanitarian assistance and participation.- Creator

African women struggle for a seat at the peace table
The contributions of women peacemakers in Africa, from Somalia to South Africa have been unnotices. Governments and rebel movements consider making war and peace to be men's work. Women have to fight their ow battles for a seat at the peace table. With the adoption of Resolution 1325 by the UN Security Council on 31 October 2000 women's special vulnerability during wartime, and calling for their 'equal participation and full involvement' in peacemaking got formally recognized.- Creator
