Feminism, sexuality, and the return of religion
Feminist theory and reflections on sexuality and gender rarely make contact with contemporary continental philosophy of religion. Where they all come together, creative and transformative thinking occurs. In this book the authors tackle complicated questions provoked by the often stormy intersection of these powerful forces. The essays in this book break down barriers as they extend the richness of each philosophical tradition. They discuss topics such as queer sexuality and religion, feminism and the gift, feminism and religious reform, and religion and diversity.- Creator

The subject of love

The subject of love
The Subject of Love: Helene Cixous and the Feminine Divine is about generous, other-regarding love. In many respects it is an homage to the very possibility that there might be such a thing, at the same time as it is a meditation on the kinds of subjects for whom it might actually be possible. In the history of Western ideas of love, such a configuration has been inseparable from our ideas about divinity and the sacred: often reserved only for God: and rarely thought of as a human achievement. Very early in Renshaw's reading of Helene Cixous, she glimpsed what she took to be Cixous' fascination with a similar kind of excessive, generous love of the other, a love which Cixous grounded in a uniquely feminine relation to difference but consistently spoke of through the language of the sacred. Renshaw follows in this genealogy the thread that connects the subject of love from 5th century B.C.E. Greece and Plato, to the 20th century protestant theology of agapic love of Anders Nygren, to the late 20th century poetico-philosophy of Helene Cixous.- Creator

Doing gender in media, art and culture
Doing Gender in Media, Art and Culture is an introductory text in gender studies. It is an interdisciplinary and intergenerational approach which bridges the gap between humanities and the social sciences, and it showcases the academic and social context in which gender studies has evolved. Phenomena such as globalisation, neo-liberalism and 'fundamentalism' are addressed that stir up new questions relevant to the study of culture.- Creator

Feminist explorations of Paul Ricoeur's philosophy
This book brings together considerations upon the feminine in relation to Paul Ricœur’s thinking. The collection .shows the potential of his thought for feminist theory. In the first part Ricœur’s work is taken as the starting point for the reflection upon the position of women and the feminine, and for rethinking the notion of universalism. In the second part his work is related to feminist thinkers such as Simone de Beauvoir, Judith Butler, and Nancy Fraser and to the work of artist Kara Walker. These dialogues aim at thinking through socially relevant notions such as discourse, recognition, and justice. In the third part Ricœurian notions and ideas are the starting point for new perspectives upon feminist theology.- Creator
