Labour markets, gender and institutional change
The multidisciplinary contributions, which cover a variety of theoretical approaches, are all concerned with transitional labor markets and labor market policy in the new global economic environment. The authors first address current arguments and controversies regarding appropriate institutions for the formation and implementation of labor market and employment policies. They move on to focus on the policies and problems associated with enhancing gender equality in terms of labor market integration and transitions. Finally, they examine new institutional arrangements that they believe will both enhance the performance of transitional labor markets and improve the management of social risks. .Combining a theoretical approach with empirical research and a strong policy emphasis, the scope and diversity of this book will ensure a broad audience among economists, political scientists and academics in the fields of labor market theory and policy.- Creator

Globalization, uncertainty and women’s careers
This book assesses the effects of globalization on the life courses of women in thirteen countries across Europe and America in the second half of the 20th century. It represents a longitudinal analysis of micro-level data from these OECD countries focusing exclusively on women’s relationship to the labor market in a globalizing world. The contributors examine women’s employment entries, exits and job mobility and present evidence of women’s increased labor market attachment and reduced employment quality in most of the countries studied. They also consider the life course changes influenced by larger transformations in society and, in doing so, explicitly link the phenomena of globalization to individual women’s lives in Europe and North America.- Creator

Changing forms of employment
Economic recessions and periods of growth are manifestations of change which have a direct effect on the experience of employees, households and work organizations. The authors examine these trends which generate pressure towards a reshaping of social institutions in three ways: changes in the organizsation of production, particularly those associated with the growth of service dominated economies: the effects of technological change, particularly those associated with ICT: and the erosion of the 'male breadwinner' (or single earner) model of employment and household.- Creator
