Against all odds
African American women have always been characterized by a series of negative stereotypes. One of the most recent stereotypes is that of the 'welfare mother' This paper explores the more common myths about welfare recipients and concludes by a discussion used by African American welfare mothers to resist marginalisation and to overcome the odds against them.
