Gender and food
The author compiled existing theoretical and empirical research on food, gender, and intersectionality in the Global North and especially in the United States to offer a framework from which to understand how gender is central to food systems. Reseach reveals gendered patterns in the division of labour and power in production (growing), distribution (shopping), preparing (cooking) to the consumption (eating) of food. The public (market) and private (home) aspects of each phase are explored together, processes that are often researched and written about separately but are closely connected.
