The efficiency of energy metabolism during pregnancy and lactation in well-nourished Dutch women
Proefschrift Landbouwuniversiteit Wageningen.

Managing the monstrous feminine
Ussher examines the ways in which medicine, science, the law and popular culture produce fictions about femininity, positioning the reproductive body as the source of women's power, danger and weakness. She describes the construction of the 'monstrous feminine' in mythology, art, literature and film, revealing its implications for the regulation and experience of the female body.- Creator

Women's bodies in psychoanalysis
The author considers the contribution of the physical body and its impact on the psyche. She argues that it is not physically being a woman that affects a person’s mind, but it is living in that physical, biological body of the woman constantly creating reactive portraits in the mind, that affects the life women lead. Four main areas are explored: clinical contributions on female development: assessments of past and present psychoanalytic theories in relation to the body: inner portraits of gender building blocks: the potentially procreative female body.- Creator

Anne Enright
This book highlights the central metaphor of maternity in writing of Anne Enright (1962). The author states that Enright empowers women by telling stories of pregnancy, mothers, daughters and grandmothers. The book characterizes Enright's work as a spiraling aesthetical, in which the spiral is feminine and empowering. In this process, the reader of Enright's texts is led to perceive a self-reflection by exploring the inner self, followed by the reader's elevation towards self-awareness of his/her materiality.- Creator

The anti-abortion campaign in England, 1966-1989
The book focuses on the period 1966-1989, which saw the highest concentration of anti-abortion activity during the twentieth century. It examines the tactics deployed by campaigners in their efforts to overturn the 1967 Abortion Act. Key themes include the influence of religion on attitudes towards sexuality and pregnancy: representations of women and the female body: and the attitudes towards the status of the fetus articulated by both anti-abortion and pro-choice advocates during the years 1966-1989.- Creator

Many mirrors
De bundel bestaat uit de volgende bijdragen: Makeup in everyday life: an inquiry into the practices of urban American women of diverse backgrounds / door Natalie Beausoleil: The body tamed : tying and tattooing among the Rashaayda Bedouin / door William c. Young: The cultural anatomy of competitive women's bodybuilding / door Alan M. Klein: Fat talk: body image among adolescent girls / door Mimi Nichter en Nancy Vuckovic: The sweetness of fat: health, procreation, and sociability in rural Jamaica / door Elisa J. Sobo: Meanings of aging in a Southern town / door Valerie Fennell: Food, sex, and salvation: the role of discourse in a recovery program for eating disorders / door Dixie L. King: Mind over body : the pregnant professional / door Robbie E. Davis-Floyd: 'Opening' faces: the politics of cosmetic surgery and Asian American women / door Eugenia Kaw: The context of meanings behind rape trauma / door Cathy Winkler en Renata McMullen en Kate Wininger: How the body shapes parenthood: 'surrogate' mochers in the United States and godmothers in Mexico / door Nicole Sault.- Creator
