Women in labour markets
Women in labour markets
'This report shows that there is a sort of inevitability about women’s increasing engagement in labour markets. Between 1980 and 2008, the rate of female labour force participation increased from 50.2 to 51.7 per cent. In countries and regions where participation rates at the beginning of the period were below the world median, the increases were much more dramatic. .On the other hand, in some countries where female labour force participation was much higher than the median in 1980, probably due to the prevalence of poverty in the country and the necessity of working for survival, the rates showed a decline over the period. What this means is that over time there has been both a general increase in female economic participation and a shrinking of the distance between countries with low levels and countries with high levels of participations.'' -

Early school leaving: lessons from research for policy makers
'This report draws on European and international literature to examine the causes and consequences, and possible remedies for, Early School Leaving (ESL) in Europe. .ESL is defined as the percentage of the population aged 18-24 with at most lower secondary education and not in further education or training. In the EU, 16.9% of boys and 12.7% of girls are early school leavers. Reducing its incidence to 10% by 2020 has been one of the key benchmarks of European education policy cooperation. It is a worldwide phenomenon (rates in the USA are much higher).'- Creator

The purpose of this opinion is to inform: • Equality bodies about these lessons, so that they might better meet the challenges posed by the difficult experience and situation of trans people, .• Policy makers at European Union level about these lessons, so that they can contribute to improving the context within which equality bodies seek to make their contribution to equality for trans people.' -
