The guide contains information based on feedback from theme groups in more than 30 countries. It synthesizes the opportunities and challenges that exist to promote gender equality and women’s human rights in the context of UN reform and greater coordination among wide-ranging development actors. The practical guidance and support comes in the form of tips, examples, and good practices summarized from the work of experienced theme groups. Source material from a cross-section of UN system agencies has been added to the base of experience.

At the crossroads
Women’s rights organisations (WROs) are organisations led by women working to advance gender equality and women’s rights. They vary in focus and scale but are informed and inspired by an understanding of the context in which women live, and what needs to change. They organise as women but recognise that women experience .many layers of inequality shaped by age, ability, ethnicity, race, HIV status, sexual orientation, religion and other social differences, and so have diverse needs and interests. A feminist analysis of how these inequalities intersect with gender inequality, and of the power structures which maintain women’s inequality to men, is at the core of WROs’ work.

'This paper seeks to inform about the context and the nature of debates and different perspectives related to some particularly sensitive issues around sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights. Its aim is indeed the sustainability of efforts and the achievement of common ground among different actors to move forward gender equality and women’s human rights.'
