Selection of measures for integrating gender into research and curricula in six European countries
'This document compiles reports on the measures that the beneficiary organisations in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia have taken in order to advance integration of gender perspective in research and teaching. The objective of this task was to increase the awareness of the importance of integrating a gender perspective in research and students’ curricula in academia. Though aiming towards common goal, project partners had quite different strategies in conducting this task due to 1) different institutional settings in each of the partner institutions, and 2) estimation of different needs among scientists coming from different field of study. In order to reflect the common objective, and allow basic comparability, the reports have been organised in a similar way: first, presenting the institutional setting and existent practices in integration of gender into the content of research and curricula, then, describing different actions each partner took and providing rationale for chosen strategies, and finally, noting challenges faced in the process of organising and conducting particular activity and reflecting on lessons learned.'- Creator

Experiences of early career researchers/academics: a qualitative research on the leaky pipeline and interrelated phenomena in six European countries
Authors want to provide a comprehensive overview of the 'leaky pipeline' in the different contexts of six GARCIA beneficiaries (Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Iceland Switzerland and Slovenia). It is based on a qualitative analysis of more than two hundred interviews conducted among three target sub-groups: movers/leavers, postdocs, and newly tenured.- Creator

Organisational culture and everyday working life
'This report aims to provide an insight into the ways quantitative data from European institutions and research centres intersects with the views and experiences of researchers in the early stages of their careers obtained .through semi-structured interviews. The GARCIA project is targeted towards combating gender inequalities in academia and research centres through the implementation of measures undertaken at cultural and sstructural levels in organisations, with particular focus on researchers in the early stages of their careers and researchers with temporary positions. The report consists of six national reports from Belgium, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Switzerland).'- Creator

Toolkit for organizing workshops 'precarious positions' for early career researchers
This toolkit provides a road map for designing and conducting effective workshops. The purpose of the toolkit is to help academic staff members in effectively organizing and facilitating workshops for .future candidates in the early stages of their academic career. The toolkit is part of the GARCIA project (Gendering the Academy and Research: combating Career Instability and Asymmetries), which is concerned with the implementation of actions in European universities and research centres to enforce gender equality and to prevent gender stereotypes and discriminations.- Creator

Toward a gendered pipeline typology

Toward a gendered pipeline typology
Authors propose a new Typology of Gendered Pipelines that provides a multi-level, multi-dimensional and comparative analytical framework of leaky pipelines and interrelated phenomena in Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia and research institutions. Along with previous studies and with a number of contemporary European studies, the GARCIA project establishes that the moving away of women from the scientific or academic path, leading to higher positions does not happen so simply as one could imagine at first glance, and that rather than adopting monocausality, we have to take a more composite view of causes and effects when thinking about the “Leaky Pipeline” and other phenomena. When looking at gender policies, under the hood of “gender equality” these have so far also focussed in a rather epidermic way on improving figures and representations in professorships and leadership positions (albeit still without much effect).- Creator
