DescriptionIn this issue on victimization among the family and its direct relations a report of a nation-wide study on domestic violence in the Netherlands. The cooperation of battered women as victims and witnesses is analyzed by examining experiences, opinions and perceptions of experts who deal most closely with batterd women in the United States. Female abusers of children are discussed and the way in which such cases are processed by the criminal justice system. 76 Cases of intimate femicide (killing of women by their intimate male partners) in Israel during 1990 and 1995 are investigated. The findings are put in a theoretical framework which assumes that violence in society will be positively related to stress factors and negatively related to support systems. Also the effects of and the victimization history of women in England and Wales on the likelihood of them receiving at least one obscene or nuisance phone call is being described.
