Description | Humphrey explores the evolution of the status offense and its negative impact on the general population of youthful offenders, particularly girls, and the link between running away and the experience of physical and sexual abuse. She argues that although abuse histories are the norm among delinquent girls the role of these histories is downplayed as a key to addressing delinquency issues. It is only when these are taken into account that girls's status offenses and delinquency issues can be addressed. She suggests alternatives to status offense arrest and detention. |
