DescriptionThis report examines the impact of research worldwide through a gender lens in order to understand the role of gender within the structure of the global research enterprise. The study uses bibliometric analyses and methodologies that enable gender clarification of authors and includes comparisons between twenty-seven subject areas, across twelve comparator countries and regions, over two decades. Among other results, the number of female researchers and inventors is increasing, women’s scholarly output includes a slightly larger proportion of interdisciplinary research than men’s and gender research becomes larger and more complex, with new topics emerging over time.
