DescriptionGlobal study about women and girls associated with violent extremism. It shows that the roles women play in violent extremism are complex and diverse. They, for example, engage as recruiters, educators or financers. Many may have children while involved with these groups, some are forced to join violent extremist groups, others join voluntarily for reasons similar to those of their male peers. They also raise alarm about rising violent extremism and mobilize as civil society organizations and community .groups to prevent or minimize its spread. The report argues that for effective rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, the Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) community must recognize the existence of these women and make existing policies and practices genderresponsive for both men and women. In Part 2 and 3, it presents good practices and a seven-elements holistic and gendered approach to disengagement, rehabilitation and reintegration.
