Description | In this report CARE draws attention to the short- and longer-term effects of the crisis on women’s economic wellbeing. It argues that the economic and financial impacts of public health crises are extremely gendered. Globally, and particularly in development and humanitarian settings, women are more likely to work in informal and/or low-paid jobs which frequently lack legal and social protections. Investment in women and their economic empowerment creates opportunities to improve the economic growth. It is crucial for COVID-19 decision-makers to consider both the needs and capacities of vulnerable populations, especially women and girls, and the effects of those strategies. |
