DescriptionThis guidebook is the first architectural-design guide devoted specifically to women's works in Europe. It offers itineraries through four cities: Barcelona (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Paris (France), Turin (Italy), and two countries: The Netherlands and Slovenia. The selection of works showcase different types of works created or recreated by women in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: residential and industrial buildings, educational, religious, commercial and transport buildings, power stations, medical and care centres, cinemas, theatres, museums, offices and banks, sports halls and stadiums, playgrounds and gardens. Each itinerary is preceded by a description of the urban historical context and its transformations. Each work is identified with the name in English and the national language, the author(s) of the work, year(s) of creation, address and photo. All geographical sections are completed by a short biographical article on women pioneers: Maria Keil (1914-2012), Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), Ada Bursi (1906-1996), Margaret Kropholler (1891-1966), Gizela Suklje (1909-1994). This publication is the result of the Women's creativity since the Modern Movement - MoMoWo project, that considers an issue of contemporary cultural, social and economic importance from a European and interdisciplinary perspective namely women's achievements in the design professions. These achievements are in fields including architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, landscape design, interior design, furniture and furnishing design some of which are still perceived as traditionally male professions. The contents of this book are the results of academic research that was based on archives, bibliographic sources and 'in situ', in order to analyse building structures, techniques and materials. Also avaiblable as open-access publication on the website of MoMoWo.
