| Description | Civil society has become a very popular term in the past several decades, in particular in connection to the political, social and economic developments in post Socialist Russia. Discussions and debates concerning the development of civil society in this country are vivid and various. This thesis contributes to these discussions and debates by providing a case study of women’s organisations in a Russian region that has so far not been explored extensively. The organisations in this sample have been observed and interviewed in the light of the question what their contribution to the development of civil society and empowerment of women have been in the past twenty years. |
