| Description | This volume presents the results of a conference, held in Berlin at the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Alliance of Women (IAW). The IAW was founded in 1904 and named the 'International Woman Suffrage Alliance' (IWSA: with the German name 'Weltbund für Frauenstimmrecht'). This conference is organised by the 'Deutsche Staatsbürgerinnen-Verband e.V. (DStV), an organisation which together with the Allgemeine Deutsche Frauenverein (ADV) also played a significant and in some aspects a controversial role in the history of women's Suffrage Movement in Germany. Contributors from Germany and some other countries focus on the history of the national and international women's movement in Germany. Contributions are on comparisons of the women's movements in different countries and on international cooperation. Other contributions are on individual leading women: Marie Stritt, Meta von Salis-Marschlins, Anita Augspurg, Margarethe Hardegger, and Dorothee von Velsen. The book ends with contributions on the importance of the women's archives in Germany. With photocopies of documents from the period of restart of the DStV in 1947, especially of some correspondence of its leader Dr. Hanna Rydh. |
